San Carlos CrossFit is proud to announce that we will have an awesome Tough Mudder Team this year again. We had one the last two years and to keep the tradition going… Let’s go out and kick some Tough Mudder butt!
We have set-up a team for the Tough Mudder on July 13th in Lake Tahoe. Our preferred start time is10:00am but confirmation of start time will be sent out 1 week before event.
This hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle course was designed by British Special Forces and tests your all around strength, stamina, mental grit and most importantly, camaraderie, all things that we Crossfitters rock at! Tough Mudder is more than an event, it’s a way of thinking. By running a Tough Mudder challenge, you’ll unlock a true sense of accomplishment, have a great time, and discover camaraderie with your fellow friends from the gym.

In the world of spam and junk mail I got something that really got my attention. No, I didn’t buy anything I just was amused by their catchy email headline.. It read “You're fat…Go on a Diet Immediately” followed by the tag “A Way for You to Lose a Quick 25 lbs”. I think words are very powerful and most of us don’t realize it. The word lose and fat are words that I put in the “downer category”. I don’t use these words unless I am describing the actual adipose tissue (aka FAT), not the person. My second thought was, does anybody actually falls for these emails? I am not sure, I hope not.
But in any event, losing weight is not what we should be aiming for, we should be aiming to gain fitness, health, and happiness. Just think about that for a moment what do you rather do, lose or gain?
So if you are new to CrossFit remember that losing weight should not be your primary goal. Your primary goal should be getting fitter, getting healthier, getting happier. Measure your progress based on how you stronger you are getting, how you feel and how your clothes fit. Forget the damn scale.
This morning I met a member that has been crossfitting with us for about 3 weeks and she was telling me how happier and fitter she feels. That is what we do at SCCF, that is our mission and we love to hear stories like that. Please, share them with us, and share them with your friends.
Many workout, only a few actually train… we train!!
The proper way to tape your hands to avoid ripping. There is also a great video that describes the proper taping technique.. Click here to access it.
Today’s workout is one of those workouts that can be very hard on your hands. CrossFitters often are proud of the fact that our workouts have bloodied our hands. "We're such badasses! We're SO hardcore!" but: IT IS NOT “COOL” TO HAVE CHUNKS OF OUR SKIN RIPPED FROM OUR HANDS, really. It freaking hurts, I remember when I ripped my hands the first time, the day it happened I was very proud of my ripped skin, but then I was out of commission for a while. So I asked myself the question, is it worth it? The answer is NO; therefore we all need to take care of our hands, before you draw first blood. How? Just follow three main steps:
- Use some chalk. Just enough to prevent slippage though! Don”t go overboard. Why? Slippage causes friction, and friction causes calluses and tears. Plus soggy sweaty skin tears easier.
- Be aware. For example, you are pounding out pull ups and your hand feels awry. Something is up. If you keep going, as I am sure you can, I assure you that things are going to start going bad. Drop off that bar, dry your hands, maybe get some chalk, and carry on. Again, LIVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY!
- Tape it up! How? Easy! Sort of… it does require a little arts and crafts skills, but this is by far the best taping method I have tried. Is it a perfect solution? Nope (and I don’t think there really is one), but it got me through 60+ of Angies pull ups (then it exploded off my hands)!:
