But the most important aspect of San Carlos CrossFit Kids is that it is FUN!  Kids will look forward to coming to class, and will learn that “exercise” is interesting, fun, and worth doing.  Do you have kids, get them to SCCF.    Do you have questions, please send us an email to info@sancarloscrossfit.com

Whoa..   This weekend is BIG for three San Carlos Cross Fit Athletes.  Three of our own will compete in three of the most grueling races around.  We cannot be prouder of this bunch...

Oliver Gutierrez will compete on Ironman Arizona this weekend.  The Ironman triathlon, an extreme challenge for the supremely fit, it consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. It's been said that just finishing is a victory! Imagine 2400 souls starting the swim at the same time..  If you want to know how your socks feel in the washer machine, try the IM swim.

Shane Stent will take on the Spartan Race (The Beast),   an obstacle Race from Hell. It was voted Outside Magazine’s Best Obstacle Race in 2012, If you have done any race anywhere in the world: whether a mud run, fun run, Olympic run, bike race, death march or any kind of event claiming to be the "toughest race on the planet" you will be happy to know that this is where it ends..THIS IS THE SPARTAN BEAST, a whole other animal.

David Firkins will compete at the World Toughest Mudder this thing  takes the concept of being a Tough Mudder to a whole new level. This extreme competition puts the world’s most hardcore Mudders through a grueling 24-hour challenge designed to find the toughest man, woman, and 4-person team on the planet. When the mud settles on November 18th, a select few winners will have bested 500,000 other Mudders worldwide for the right to call themselves the World’s Toughest Mudders!

It is going to be great..  We are very proud of you guys..  Way to represent…  Kill  them!!!

Tuesday 12.13.12

Power, Speed, Endurance is a new book written by Brain Mackenzie, the founder of CrossFit Endurance. I come from a triathlon, ultra running background.  Before CrossFit I was your regular “junk mile” person.  My training will include many miles, many yards, and lots of time away from things that were just as important.  I discovered CrossFit and I got stronger, then I discovered CrossFit Endurance and I got better.   CFE is revolutionary high-intensity interval training system that has catapulted me the next level.  I am excited about start using this book in my training and with SCCF athletes.

The book is based in a very new approach to training developed by Brain Mackezie and tested, by many marathoners, triathletes, and Ironman competitors. This system details training and programming strategies that will not only increase your power output, your speed, your endurance, but also decrease the amount of time you spend training. It simply makes time to  for other things just as important,  like keeping a happy family.

I really enjoyed the thousands of step-by-step photos  and description , Power, Speed, Endurance  teaches proper mechanics of running, cycling, and swimming very easily.   Even I,  understand those and I just had brain surgery. What I like the most about this book is the the programming section.  This is what I think is the most powerful part the book, the ability to put it all together.   The book even has a section on mobility, which is one of the most important parts of any training program.  It will reduce your chances of injury and speed recovery.

Some of our SCCF athletes will be looking to add half and full marathons, ultramarathons, ironman triathlons and tough mudder events to their calendar.  This book will help you to get to the finish line.

Monday 10.29.12

This past weekend the SCCF Endurance Team went to run the Stinson Beach trail run.  This happened to be Lloyds first trail run.  We picked the 25K which was also pretty hard because of the elevation change,  check the elevation profile here,  it was brutal.  25k with about 3k+ of elevation gain is not joke.   Lloyd did awesome and so did Oliver, Jim and Luis...   The endurance team will go on a hiatus for a couple of weeks,  but big things are planned for the future.

Why would you want to run trails?  very simple-  There is a reduced risk of injury: The soft, ever-varying surface of the trail lessens the likelihood of an overuse injury, strengthens core muscles, and ultimately makes for more comfortable long runs than asphalt, in other words, it is like running on pillows.  Then, there is  rush that road running just can’t give you;  a quantifiably-greater endorphin release than does breathing in roadside fumes an a different appreciation of yourself and nature.    Right Lloyd?

Thursday 10.25.12

A long time ago, in junior High school,  I got an F in English,  I got my card home and my parents were a bit upset about this F.   The next day,  my dad came with a sledge hammer and took me to a piece of land we used to own.   He gave me the sledge hammer and told me to start hammering big rocks in the property.  I was upset and I didn't want to do it, but he made me do it anyway.  I was hurting, I barely could hold a  glass of water after a couple of hours of hammering.  He told me  "this is what you will be doing the rest of your life if you don't study and do well"...   I learned my lesson and never had an F again. My dad is a very wise man...

It's not going to be easy, it's going to be worth it.
