Required:

Bachelors degree (must apply and be accepted in one of many graduate programs at Sul Ross State University). Computer skills.

Preferred:

Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, public relations, sport management or related field. Possess a working knowledge of Presto and NCAA Genius statistical software; have strong oral and writing skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of college athletics. Knowledge in layout and design using Adobe Creative Suite or a similar program and two years of experience as a sports information/media relations student assistant is preferred. The ability to use Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, etc.) is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities:

Sul Ross State University, an NCAA Division II institution located in Alpine, Texas, and a member of the Lone Star Conference, is currently seeking qualified applicants for a graduate assistant position in the department of sports information. SRSU sponsors 12 mens and womens athletic teams.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Director of Sports Information in covering all 12 of SRSUs sports. In this role, the successful applicant will be serving as the liaison between the media, student-athletes and coaches.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, web site maintenance; writing and dissemination of press releases and feature stories; layout and design of assigned game notes and game day programs using Adobe Creative Suite; assist with day-to-day operations of the sports information office for home events; travel to select events if required; collect and maintain statistical information using Presto and Genius Live Stats; update and maintain sports social media accounts; and other duties as assigned.
Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times. This position is security sensitive. Other Information:

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.
