This position opening is to be located at our Spartanburg, SC location.

The overall responsibilities of a Road Trailer Technician include:

  1. Operate equipment and tools as needed to perform work.
  2. Perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of trailer manufacturers.
  3. Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  4. Implement cost-saving and tracking maintenance program through work orders in Vista.
  5. Document and keep clear and accurate details on work orders.
  6. Perform preventative maintenance on empty trailers to keep the yard crew/drivers from delays.
  7. Check and bring loaded trailer tires to appropriate air pressure before leaving the yard.
  8. Identify and replace damaged trailer tires before leaving the yard or loaded.
  9. Perform repairs to trailers on suspension, lighting, frame, brakes, and air systems to meet DOT/FMCSA requirements.
  10. Perform trailer annual DOT/FMCSA inspections prior to expiration date to stay compliant.
  11. Adhere to environmental and stormwater pollution prevention policies.
  12. Housekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
  13. Must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.

Characteristics

  1. Good mechanical aptitude
  2. Ability to trouble shoot trailer electrical, air systems, suspension, and frame.
  3. Must be safety-conscious
  4. Able to work independently following a provided priority list
  5. Ability to use hand tools for repair/maintenance items
  6. Ability to learn to drive switcher, tractors, buggies or other vehicles in the yard safely
  7. Able to read tape measure to 1/16
  8. Able to read wiring and pneumatic schematics
  9. Ability to read work instructions and perform basic math to estimate materials
  10. Able to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes
  11. Values and demonstrates safe working behaviors

Education and Technology

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  2. 1-2 years hands-on maintenance experience
