POSITION OVERVIEW

Matador is looking for a bold, creative Performance Marketing Manager with a passion for storytelling, brand building, and digital growth. This role requires a strategic thinker and hands-on executor who brings a blend of creativity, data-driven decision-making, and technical expertise to every aspect of marketing. As a key steward of the Matador brand, you’ll lead the execution of digital marketing strategies across multiple channels, ensuring consistency and impact across consumer touchpoints. From driving eCommerce performance and paid media campaigns to crafting compelling content and fostering partnerships, you’ll play a pivotal role in expanding Matador’s reach and inspiring adventure. Based in our Boulder, CO headquarters, you’ll collaborate closely with our in-house content team, graphic designers, marketing director, and more to engage our community and grow the Matador brand. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

The Performance Marketing Manager will report directly to the Marketing Director and play a key role in executing Matador’s digital strategy across eCommerce, paid media, email, SMS, affiliate and partnership programs, and PR. This role requires a well-rounded digital marketing powerhouse with strong operational and analytical skills to drive growth and optimize performance. In addition, exceptional copywriting skills are essential, as this position will craft compelling content across multiple channels for Matador, TinyTents, and MicroSend. eCommerce Management: The Performance Marketing Manager will oversee eCommerce presence for all brands, managing platforms to ensure content, product listings, and site performance are continuously optimized. This includes implementing best practices to drive SEO, site visitation, conversion rates, and average order value, and total revenue while maintaining a seamless, on-brand user experience. You’ll analyze key performance metrics, identify growth opportunities, and collaborate with internal teams and third-party partners to enhance the customer journey, execute site updates, and roll out new features. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating technical changes, refining merchandising strategies, and ensuring alignment with broader marketing initiatives. Paid Media: This role will drive paid media strategy and execution across PPC, social media advertising, and other digital channels to help accelerate brand growth. A critical focus will be ensuring that campaigns effectively attract first-time buyers while re-engaging past visitors to increase conversions. This includes managing campaigns on platforms like Google Ads, Meta, third-party, and emerging ad networks, optimizing for performance metrics such as ROAS, CPA, CTR, LTV. You’ll develop, test, and refine ad creatives, audience targeting, and bidding strategies to maximize efficiency and impact. A strong analytical mindset and the ability to interpret data, A/B test, and pivot strategies based on performance trends will be essential for success in this role. Email and SMS Program Management: As Performance Marketing Manager you’ll own the strategy and execution of email and SMS marketing, creating engaging, on-brand content that drives customer engagement and sales. You’ll collaborate with the marketing director, graphic designers, and other team members to develop campaigns that align with brand objectives and audience insights. Using platforms like Klaviyo and Attentive, you’ll manage audience segmentation, automations, and A/B testing, optimizing key metrics such as open rates, CTR, and revenue per send. A strong mix of creative storytelling and data-driven decision-making is essential, ensuring campaigns—including welcome flows, abandoned cart reminders, and post-purchase sequences—are continuously refined for maximum impact. Copywriting: This role requires strong copywriting skills that will be utilized throughout the company. Copywriting projects include web, email, SMS, paid media, affiliate/partner communications, and additional projects as assigned. Applicants should have very strong creative writing and storytelling skills, as well as a good understanding of what engages customers and drives sales. Copywriting is often cross-departmental and requires a strong ability to collaborate and incorporate constructive feedback to achieve desired results. Affiliate / Partnership Management: Applicant will drive affiliate and partnership strategies to expand brand reach and build a thriving community around Matador and its mini-brands. This includes identifying and cultivating relationships with affiliate partners and complementary brands to drive visibility, sales, and engagement. You’ll manage outreach efforts, negotiate partnerships, and oversee product marketing collaborations that align with brand goals. Ideal candidates will have experience growing digital communities, strong industry connections, and a proven track record of building successful affiliate programs. Your ability to forge authentic partnerships and leverage these networks will play a critical role in amplifying Matador’s impact. Public Relations (PR): The Performance Marketing Manager will partner with the Marketing Director to oversee public relations efforts, working closely with agency partners to amplify Matador’s visibility and credibility. You’ll collaborate on strategies for media outreach, press releases, product launches, and brand storytelling, ensuring alignment with company objectives. Additionally, you’ll support product seeding initiatives and act as a liaison for affiliates when needed, ensuring smooth communication and alignment across campaigns. Strong communication and organizational skills are key to driving impactful PR efforts and enhancing Matador’s reputation in the travel and outdoor industries.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, with 5+ years of relevant marketing experience.
  • Proven experience working closely with senior management, with a broad understanding of marketing, digital strategy, competitive analysis, and opportunity assessment.
  • Preferred background in the travel, outdoor, retail, or related industry.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with exceptional organizational and project management abilities; capable of balancing multiple priorities.
